Stand Up!!!!!!!

How many of you are leaders? Who feels that they were naturally born to lead? I'm talking about real leaders, not someone doing dumb stuff and have dunb friends doing the same thing just because you're doing it. I mean the type of leaders that when others see what you're doing it makes them want to either go out and do the same or fix their own situations so that they can get things in order as well.

How many of you are trendsetters and not trend followers. Do you go against the grain or just take things as they are? Do we have any potential Dr. Martin Luther King's here? I think that more of us need to stand up and be leaders than to lay down and watch others do so. We need to step up our intelligence and be something besides haters and addicts. Stand up and get your self respect back because somewhere down the line we lost it. If we continue to let it go we'll lose it forever. We've got to stop being a part of the problem through our excuses and start being a part of the solution by acting. We've got to get out of the get high and get laid mentality and adopt one that will motivate us to motivate others to get up get out and make something of ourselves. We are our future, and if we can't look in the mirror each day and see the potential for greatness then we'll never amount to anything as a whole. It's time for us to stop tearing each other down and start building each other up. What happened to us? When did we lose sight or glory? When did we stop caring about ourselves? When did we stop wanting more by accepting less?

Who's ready to change that? It all starts with self.

My Dream.....

My Dream

i dream
of
a day of peace...
a day of
no worries and
no suffering
a day of
calm...
within
every heart mind and soul
throughout the land
that mother earth holds dear
i pray
for just one day...
when
no one is hungry and
no one
is broke...
a day when
no baby cries and
no one mourns
the passing of a loved one
I wish
for a day with no crime...
for a day
when
black and white
doesn't exist and
every nationality
embraces each other as
brother and sister and...
every religion
stops claiming that
theirs is the best and
realize...
that there's only one God
that we all serve and
no matter
how you translate His word...
it's still...
His word
I hope
that for one day
this world
can embrace itself and
put its differences in the past...
move forward yet...
still remember
how far it has come
to get to where it needs to go
just one day
when...
the streets are clear
homelessness doesn't exist and
poverty...
was yesterdays news
i want to see that
every one is smiling and
no one is violent or
short tempered...
i want
a day of
reflection
to remind us all of
how good life could be
if we would realize
that we all
share one common goal
and we will achieve it by
holding each other's hand and
walking each other through
rather than
tripping each other up and
stabbing each other in the back with
hatred
for whatever reason we've
given ourselves to
justify our ignorant ways
if we
reach out to one and
teach
another then
maybe
we could all learn
and comprehend
the real definition
of life's true purpose
one day...

Public Rudity....

I work in retail, and I must say that the general public is a rude and spoiled bunch of individuals. When did we as consumers get so spoiled? When did we come to a point where we started to insist that salespeople make decisions for us? I know that as a salesman, I'm supposed to sell you on things but, what happened to the day when you did your own research and made your decision based on that research. It's cool to have a few basic questions or to want a few things cleared up that you may not have understood but, I'm not supposed to feel like I'm teaching a class every time I'm approached to assist someone. Then, if the customer heard something they don't like, here comes the rudeness. Honestly, why are people so rude? We're salespeople...we're only doing our jobs, but if the little spoiled customer doesn't get his or her way, here comes the tantrum, and here comes the requests to speak with a manager.

Let me tell you how retail works. A person is hired, usually based on his or her experience, and or his or her likability. After that, there is a training process. In that training process, all the rules, all the do's and don'ts are presented. You are told what to tell people in certain situations, and how to properly handle yourself. Most importantly, you're told to always smile because it makes them feel welcome. With that said, if you're looking for something, and I tell you that there are no more, don't get mad at me because you missed it. If I tell you that there are more on order, then that's what it is. Don't ask me for the display because I've already told you that we have some on order. When I tell you that per store policy we cannot discount the display then that's what it is. We do not make up rules as we go. If you do request a manager, you're going to get the same answer so why waste the time?

Now, everybody knows the retail busy seasons. Don't come in with an attitude because you had to wait 3 minutes for service. Look around you, it's busy..it's common sense. You are not the only person shopping and the ratio of customers to salespersons is usually pretty low. If you came in yesterday and there were 20 or 30 of something, don't be shocked because it's sold out. It kills me when people say...well I was just here the other day and there were plenty of them...guess what? You're not the only person shopping for this item. There have been hundreds of people in here before you, while you were here and after you left.

Every retail store I've been in has departments. If you're looking for something in a particular, seek as employee that works in that section. if you don't see one, ask for one. Stop asking random people where things are, and stop getting angry with them if they say that they don't know. You can't expect the guy that works in produce to know about a pressure washer, and you can't expect the electronics guy to know where something is in the grocery department. That brings me to another point. Did people forget what the customer service area is and what it's for? If you ask me something and I don't know and I direct you to customer service, don't stand there and look at me like I just gave you a jigsaw puzzle. Generally, the customer service area is located somewhere at the from of the store. This has been the case for years, yet people still look lost when you ask them to go there.

My last point is this....READ. If you see an item and you see a sign for the item read the sign. If the item doesn't match what the sign says then odds are, that's not that item. I admit that in some stores where they have multi level shelves and signs everywhere it can be a little confusing but, that goes back to what I said before...READ!!!!!!! People kill me getting all the way to the front of the store at the checkout and saying..oh, that was supposed to be 5 dollars but it's ringing up 10. Now...on occasion we do mess up...but if you read the sign in most cases you'll see that it was 5 dollar for the pop tarts and 10 for the case of peanut butter that you picked up. Speaking of reading. Most stores have signs on the end of each aisle letting you know what's generally on that aisle. If you read these...you'll more than likely find what you are looking for because to be honest with you, if you ask me where something is...I'm going to tell you...I don't know exactly which aisle but the sign on the end of it should tell you.

That's my rant for today..thank you for reading. I've got to go to work now...

Hold on, I forgot one.. If you bring 3 big burly dudes with you and you're buying a shop crane or anything heavy, bulky, whatever...don't stand by and watch that one associate load it all by himself.

Bottom line is...we don't get paid to be abused. Be nice to your associate and he or she will be certain to be nice to you and everybody will end up having a nice day.

Until next time....

What Are You Thankful For?

It's the time of year when people gather together to be with family and friends. It's a time where people stop for a moment to give thanks for different reasons. I believe that we should give thanks each and every day but, this is the holiday/season where it is focused on the most.

Gratitude is a powerful thing. I didn't realize that until recently. I always said thank you for things, but it was only the major or life changing things. I didn't take into account that every detail of life is a life altering one and that I should be grateful for even the smallest things whether they are positive or negative. I don't think I'm the only one who neglected to recognize that fact.

In church, the message always comes up to praise even during your darkest hour, give thanks in every season and you will be prosperous. I remember sitting in church getting frustrated because there was always an older member that would get up and say they had a testimony. Each and every time you'd think it would be something major that may have happened to cause them to want to testify. Instead, it usually went something like...Lord, I just want to thank You for waking me up this morning, I thank you for the coffee in my cup and the bread on my plate Lord. If it weren't for You I'd be hungry and wanting. I thank you Lord for putting my feet on the floor and my behind in this seat so I can hear this word today.

We all used to sit there like what? That's normal everyday stuff. When you think about it though, every day is a blessing. Every step we take and every breath we inhale is a testimony. It may sound trivial but, we are here. We should all be thankful for that. Nothing in this life is promised to us. We take entirely too much for granted in this world. We we say thank you, we should do so in detail to show how truly grateful we are for the things that we have, even if it's not much, it's more than likely more than what someone else has.

No matter how much success you have or how little you have, there's always someone with more or less than you. Be thankful than you don't have less, an your gratitude will help you get more. When you pass that along, it creates a harmony. When you show someone you're grateful to them they'll end up doing the same for someone else. It's one of the tools to true prosperity.

When you're sitting wherever you're going to be this Thanksgiving, think about the people around you and be grateful for them, let them know how much you appreciate them and how much it means to you that you all were able to see each other once again. Afterwards, remember that even though Thanksgiving only comes once a year, being thankful should be an every day affair.
